Architectural Concept The proposed building for the Music Academy is situated at the southwestern corner of the intersection of Matejki and Grunwaldzka Streets, in the historic Łazarz district in southern Poznań. Its location makes it highly visible from many perspectives: from the southwest along Grunwaldzka Street and from the northeast along Szylinga Street, completing the corner of Grunwaldzka-Matejki similarly to the opposite tenement buildings. Approaching from the south, the building reveals itself to passersby as they reach the property—it is set in front of an open square with beautiful trees, creating a scenic foreground and a green backdrop for the building entrance. The proposed form is positioned so as to close off views into the internal courtyard of the tenements from Skryta Street. The first impression of the building is its compact volume and elegant monumentality, referencing historical examples from Poznań, such as the neo-Renaissance building of the Municipal Real School (burned in 1945) and the former Credit District. At the same time, the architecture of the building draws on the row architecture of Poznań tenements, characterized by a highlighted ground-floor zone, gradation of facade divisions across the floors, niches of balconies, pilasters, and cornices. A distinctive feature is the finishing of the facade at the edge of the roof—with marked circular towers of the stairwells and visible pediments of the rooms on the roof—drawing on the elevated gables of tenements. This building is also ultramodern, referencing historical stylistic elements without being a literal quote or pastiche.
